Budget Homecoming Dresses

Posted under Uncategorized by admin on October 20th, 2008 5:45 pm

If you’ve got your heart set on attending homecoming but are worried about how you’ll afford a new dress for the big event, stop fretting – there are countless dresses to be had that are suitable for a homecoming dance and also affordable.  The key is simply knowing where and when to look, and realizing that a dress does not have to be labeled as a homecoming gown in order to be worn as one.

Since weddings occur all the year round, there are always sales going on in bridal shops.  You may also find deeply discounted dresses on clearance from these stores, just waiting to be bought.  Because the style, cut, and overall general look of both formal and semi-formal dresses that are worn to these events rarely change, so there’s no need to worry about being out of style, or looking as if you’re wearing a dress from last year’s selections.

Many local boutiques and dress shops may surprise you at their selections as well as their ability to order a wide array of dresses – usually at a decent discount.  Also, because smaller establishments don’t always have the physical space necessary to display a large number of gowns at a time, be sure to ask about their entire inventory and not just what’s out on the racks.  Remember to take advantage of end-of-the-season sales for this very same reason.  It’s also wise to visit a few shops that aren’t in your general neighborhood if you want to make absolutely certain you and three other girls won’t all be showing up in the same exact dress.

Don’t be afraid to ask your friends and relatives if they might have a dress – or know someone who does – that you could wear to the dance.  With their permission, try to make it look all your own, with accessories like shoes, handbags, jewelry, hair, and makeup.  Surprisingly enough, the older the dress you can borrow, the better.  Vintage style gowns have made an incredible comeback recently and seem to be here to stay for quite a while.

Next on the list of budget-friendly resources for homecoming dresses is the infinite internet as the possibilities here truly are endless.  But don’t make the mistake of only searching for “homecoming dresses”.  Not only will that limit your search results, it will also increase the likelihood you’ll be paying more for your dress simply because it was labeled as a homecoming dress instead of as a formal or semi-formal gown or dress, cocktail, or special occasion dress.  To save on shipping costs when shopping online, wait for promotions or deals that offer both shipping and handling for free or combine your order with a few friends to meet any minimum order requirements for the free shipping.

Yet another way to save money on your homecoming dress is to buy one that will serve double duty that can be worn again to another occasion after the dance is long over.  Just remember, the earlier you shop, the better.  Not only will you save money, you’ll also have more options and ideas to choose from to help make your homecoming dance a night to remember forever.

How to Avoid Embarrassing Fashion Blunders

Posted under Uncategorized by admin on October 20th, 2008 3:39 pm

So many people are truly interested in style and fashion, but they’re afraid of making a horrible mistake that will be remembered as a total fashion blunder. And quite frankly, with some of today’s fashion trends, the potential for fashion disasters is enormous. We’ve all seen how celebrities can be remembered and mocked for years based solely on the wrong fashion choice. While you may not have to worry about photographers and bloggers tracking your every move, there’s something to be said for friends who can remember your unfortunate fashion choices for years.

The first thing you need to do to avoid fashion mistakes is know what looks good on you and how you describe your personal style. Everyone has a unique sense of style that’s associated with their individual personas and it’s this knowledge that will greatly affect your ability to pull off certain styles. Trendy outfits don’t look good on everyone – so it’s good to be aware of which colors and shapes best suit you. Imagine someone with a usually eclectic, funky sense of style and personality trying to pull off a classy pants suit without any additional flair. Even though the suit may look stunning, there’s something about it that won’t look right when they’re wearing it.

Secondly, if you’re a curvy woman, don’t try to fit into clothes designed for very skinny women. It doesn’t matter if you can squeeze into them and pull up the zipper – it’s still going to make you look horrible. Likewise, if you’re very thin, wearing a low-cut shirt that emphasizes your chest bones isn’t going to be a good look for you. Something you must understand about fashion is that it’s meant to hide your flaws and make them look better. If you can’t admit what your body’s flaws are, you may make a huge fashion mistake by emphasizing them with the wrong clothing choices.

Lastly, don’t try to directly imitate those runway fashion designs and think that you can get away with it in a normal public setting. Runway looks aren’t meant to actually be worn. Instead, they’re intended to be a snapshot of the overall ambition the designer is aiming for. Clothing lines aren’t just built around a style of clothing, but rather an ideal of what that brand represents that’s put forth to the consumer through elaborate runway shows. Trying to emulate that style in the real world will cause horrible fashion blunders that are not soon forgotten.

So, if you’re interested in fashion and are trying to put yourself out there in a way that will be recognized, try to do it in a way that doesn’t end with you being mocked by your friends and family. Accentuate your normal outfits with some high-fashion flair, or try to integrate small trendy pieces with your current wardrobe. Take the time to look at your clothing and your body with a critical eye – you’ll be the best judge of what works for you and what doesn’t.
