The Colors of Beautiful
There is such a thing as wearing the ‘wrong’ color for your skin tone. It’s true. Some skin tone’s match better with certain colors in clothing then others. It’s a natural attraction between skin and clothing. We have to love the skin we’re in so that means we should find clothing that loves our skin too.
There are four main categories to skin tones. In general having so few categories makes it much easier and covers all ranges in color, ethnicity, and under tones. Don’t get me wrong. Some of us can roam out of our normal comfort zone in color matches and still be ok, that’s normal on occasion, but if you stray too far it begins to become blatantly disturbing.
The best bet in finding your true skin undertone is to look at the inside of your arm in natural daylight. This gives you the best idea. And don’t forget to take into account those future trips to the tanning bed. When planning your important outfit for an event that is in the future you will want to take any future skin change into consideration.
Category One is for people with cool skin tones. You will have pale, porcelain white skin, yellow’s, olive’s, and also dark skin. This category covers the two polar opposites of skin color; the palest of white and the darkest of brown’s. Category One is served best by powerful color. Navy blue, black, red, hot pink; and for the lighter side try cooler blues, pinks, and yellows. Avoid earth tones, orange and gold.
Category Two is close to category one, but with pale and pink tones. Usually in natural blondes (the majority of category two is made up of blondes). Wear powder blue, dusty pink, mauve, lavender, plum, and pale yellow. Avoid earth tones and powerful colors. Category Three is led by rich golden skin tones, peach, golden beige or brown skin. Wear beige, olive, gold, dark brown, and rich grey. Avoid bright colors, black and white. Category Four is led by warm skin tones such as creamy whites or peach and ivory, but with golden undertones. Usually golden blondes or strawberry blondes. Wear golden yellow, golden brown, peach, and aqua. Avoid black and white, and dark colors.
